Explore Module Overview

Module 3, Explore, starts to build students knowledge and understanding of what employers look for and asks students to think about how to prepare for interviews.

Starting by looking at the skills and qualities employers value most, students use this information to prepare an Interview  Top Tips  resource. Finally students consider their own activities to see how they can communicate their achievements clearly during interviews.

 

Module Aims

  • Explore the variety of ways used to find a job. Build an understanding of what qualities employers value and analyse what employers want.
  • Students apply this knowledge to their own experiences to help them be successful at interview.

Learning Objectives

  • To evaluate their own chances of success at interview and identify what aspects they need to communicate during a recruitment process.
  • To broaden the students understanding of the range of roles and jobs available by exploring the career pathway of the Business Ambassador.
  • To recap skills and qualities and link to interview process.
  • To start to explore the recruitment and selection process.
  • To understand employability skills from the employers perspective.
  • To identify where skills and qualities are used inside and outside of school and introduce STAR model to communicate achievements.
  • To develop communication skills.

Key Messages

  • Be passionate and knowledgeable about your area of interest as this is what separates you from the competition.
  • It’s OK to not know what you want to do right away. Try your hand at a few things to help narrow down what you do want to do.
  • First jobs often involve basic tasks but they will build your expertise and experience. No task is too small so do everything with a positive attitude.

This activity asks students to consider employability skills from the employers perspective and with the Business Ambassadors support the class can start to understand why these skills and qualities are so important in the workplace.

A Week in Your Life

This diary entry activity enables students to identify their own key skills and qualities. It encourages them to think about how skills they use every day can be transferable to their career.

Using the STAR model students will also understand how to present their experience in a clear and positive way during interviews.

Using classic interview questions students will work together to produce a Interview Top Tips resource.  Building on their shared responses and with input from the Business Ambassador,  the class will gain a real insight into what makes a good interview reply.
